About The One
The One is a daily Bible game. Every day it asks the same 7 questions of everyone who plays, and it rewards the answer nobody else thought of. Anyone can name Moses. It takes someone who has actually read Judges to name Shamgar.
Why a game about rare answers
Most Bible quizzes test whether you know the famous story. The One asks something harder and more fun: how far into the text can you go? The parable it is named for, the lost sheep in Luke 15, is about the one that wandered off from the ninety-nine. In the game, the answer that wanders farthest from the flock is the one that scores most.
Every answer in the game comes with the verse it is found in, and the answer key at the end of each day lists every name a prompt accepts. A lot of players finish a round having met a king, a prophet or a town they had never noticed before. That is the part we care about most.
How the prompts are made
Each prompt has a full list of accepted answers, usually fifteen or more, so there is room for rare ones. Answers are built from the Bible text itself and from the open Theographic dataset of people, places and events, with alternate spellings from older translations so a player is not marked wrong for saying Elias instead of Elijah. Every prompt is reviewed by hand before it is scheduled, and when players report an answer that should have counted, it is checked and added.
A new flock is scheduled for every day, mixing people, places, books, objects and events, with seasonal themes around Easter and Christmas. No prompt comes back for at least three weeks. Past days stay up in the archive with their answers and verses.
Who it is for
Anyone who has spent time in Scripture: Bible study groups looking for a warm-up, families, pastors, students, and people who just like a daily word game with a little more depth. It is free, there is no account to make, and a round takes about five minutes.
